CAPE & ISLANDS SPECIAL OLYMPICS (web site)
Special Olympics Massachusetts is a year-round sports training and competition program for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. The growing Cape & Islands program currently trains more than 700 Special Olympics Athletes and Unified Partners (non-disabled teammates) in 13 different individual and team sports. These athletes are supported by nearly 150 volunteer program coordinators and coaches, backed by more than 500 event volunteers. Through the power of sport, our movement transforms the lives of people with intellectual disabilities and unites everyone by fostering a sense of community and the building of a civil society.
CHAMP HOMES (web site)
CHAMP Homes is celebrating 20+ years serving those in need of safe, supportive, nurturing, therapeutic familytype housing. In 20 years CHAMP Homes has helped 1600 youths and adults of the Cape and Islands with no federal and state contracts. There is also a focus on creating innovative programs such as the Champ Charitable Redemption Partnership. CHAMP Homes works in collaboration with many other community charities to help alleviate homelessness.
COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER OF CAPE COD (web
site)
Community Health Center of Cape Cod is a non-profit federally qualified health center that provides access to health care for adults and children with MassHealth, Commonwealth Care, Medicare, private insurance, or no insurance at all. Its mission is to improve the health status of the patients and the community it serves through the provision of comprehensive, high quality, compassionate health care to all regardless of their ability to pay. Our goal is to provide a “medical”home for our patients by providing a wide range of integrated services under one roof including primary care, dental care, behavioral health, women’s health services, coordinated case management, and prescription assistance. Founded in 1998 as the Falmouth Free Clinic, the organization has grown to meet the needs of the community and now has multiple locations.
SIGHT LOSS SERVICES (web
site)
Sight Loss Services is the only Cape and Islands-based agency OF and FOR the newly blind, the visually impaired, and those with progressive eye disease. The Cape is a fast growing region for visual impairment due to our increasing elder population. Self Help Support Groups provide vital peer support and exchange of problem-solving strategies. Our Adaptive Aids/Tech program introduces items designed to assist in carrying out daily tasks and our resource room provides a chance to try these things hands-on. We do not charge a fee for our services because we believe no one should go through vision loss alone. We have helped to support, inform, refer, educate, and improve the quality of life for countless visually impaired individuals for 30 years.
